Hey there! Confused about how my Vriska ended up where she is today? It's got to be pretty jarring to come here expecting a huge bitch and getting somebody who might actually pass as a decent human being. Trust me, it took me by surprise, too. That's why I'm working on compiling a list of major events in Vriska's stay at the facility that seriously changed the way she acts, thinks, or presents herself to people. If you want to call me out on characterization on my HMD, I encourage you to read this post first.
Drowning in Venice | October 15, 2010 |
This was the catalyst for everything Vriska's turned into. Evil Twin Week strikes during a trip to Venice, and Vriska's twin gives Vriska a taste of her own medicine. As a direct result of this incident, her relationship with Kanaya began strengthening to a real moirallegiance. It was that much easier for Kanaya to convince Vriska to start making up with people now that she knew how horrifying it was to be mind-controlled. |
Equius' termination | November 3, 2010 |
Vriska's issues with losing her entire species begin to rear their head here. She snaps for what definitely won't be the last time and runs back to Kanaya for help and guidance. Kanaya tells her the most important thing she'll hear in a long time. "You're always fighting, Vriska. Sometimes there's no battle to fight." She remembered those words long after Kanaya was gone, until she took them completely to heart. Then she'd never forget them. |
Karkat's termination | November 14, 2010 |
Vriska and Terezi confront each other and almost come to blows over who has the right to mourn Karkat. Remembering Kanaya's words, Vriska apologizes instead of escalating the argument. She says that being nice, that doing what she can to make Terezi feel better, is more important than being a bitch. And she means it. Here marked the beginning of a very shaky, but very important, relationship with Terezi. |
Shadow Vriska | January 3, 2011 |
During the Persona-inspired Shadow Week, the kinder, gentler side of Vriska gets a soapbox all her own. She uses that time to reassure Vriska's associates that yes, Vriska really does care about them, and some of them, she actually likes. Like John. She spills the beans on Vriska's flushed leanings with him, and soon after, the two of them have a series of conversations that end with them being officially official matesprits. By the end of this experiment, Vriska accepted that yes, sometimes she was capable of not being a terrible person, and absorbed her shadow into herself. |
Making up with people | December 2010–February 2011 |
Aradia | Sollux | Tavros |
After months of goading from Kanaya and Terezi, Vriska finally turns herself into the better troll and apologizes to the three people she's wronged the most. In a cabin in Whispering Rock, Tavros gets Vriska's apology and a face full of Vriska's lips before breaking her heart. In a park in Gotham City, Aradia gives Vriska a second chance even though she doesn't deserve it. And in an electronics store in the same city, Sollux begrudgingly forgives Vriska. Not everything was okay with her and the others after this, but they were better than they'd been in a long, long time. |
STILL IN PROGRESS. Updated when I feel like updating. (Accurate up to 2/2011.)
