Name: Vriska Serket (online handle: arachnidsGrip)
Fandom: Homestuck
Timeline: Caught up with the most recent point in canon's current timeline, after all this Hivebent flashback stuff is over but before The Rift. Let's say right after the second recap.
Age: Six Alternian solar sweeps; 13 Earth years
Appearance: Vriska drawn semi-realistically || Vriska as a sprite

Vriska is generally a pretty normal-looking girl. If you look past the grey skin, orange horns, yellow eyes lined with blue eyeshadow, pointy fangs smiling from behind blue lips, robotic left arm, and eyepatch over her left eye, she's just like everyone else! She has a black shirt with a blue Scorpio symbol on it, over which she wears a one-sleeved grey collared jacket. It's actually kind of stylish! She has deep blue jeans and red-and-white hi-tops to complete the ensemble. Throw in some waist-length black hair and glasses and she might as well be that one semi-creepy kid from high school who sat in the corner and read Monster Manuals all day.

Considering that's what she does, though, it's not much of a stretch! Being so nerdy, it's only natural that she'd have some cool body modifications to go with the rest of her appearance. So yes, she does have a dark lens slash eyepatch over her left eye and an awesome, fully functional robotic left arm. The circumstances behind them are a lot less cool, though. She was caught in a... cue ball explosion. No, trust me, it makes sense. (And honestly, if that's what quirks your eyebrows, you ain't seen nothing yet.) Speaking of seeing, Vriska used to have eight eyes! The eyepatch used to have seven red globules on it, but they were lost in the very same explosion. Her vision eightfold is now gone forever. She also lost a decent amount of her blue blood in the explosion, but she's better now. Promise!

Online, Vriska has a few quirks. She types exclusively in a distinct shade of blue, for one. Keeping with her eightfold theme, she replaces the letter B, as well as any phonemes that sound like the number eight, with the number eight. Occasionally, when she wants to be dramatic or condescending, she'll repeat characters eight times. Normally she's pretty consistent with this, but when she gets especially worked up, she'll replace more and more letters with 8 until it becomes 8 h8rri8le inc8mpr8h8nsi8le m8ss!!!!!!!! It's. It's something special to see, that's for sure.

Abilities: Vriska, like all the other trolls and the Homestuck kids, uses a Sylladex to manage the various things she picks up in her day-to-day travels. A Sylladex is a semi-intangible inventory management system made up of things called Captchalogue Cards. Sylladex users can take items and captchalogue them, adding them to their Sylladex, and retrieve them through a construct known as a Fetch Modus. Some of the more complicated Modi include Jenga, which splits items up into three blocks each and makes the user extract all three blocks from a tower of other blocks without toppling the tower; Encryption, which locks items in a very heavy vault and makes the user hack into it before they can access the items; and Miracle, which... well, nobody knows how the Miracle Modus works. And nobody wants to know. Vriska's Fetch Modus is currently unknown, but whatever it is, she's probably pretty good at figuring it out.

She also makes use of a Strife Specibus, which is a complicated name for "the weapon she uses". Her Strife Specibus is allocated to diceKind; she has on her a set of eight-sided dice called the Fluoride Octet, and she's remarkably good with them. To the extent that one can be good at rolling dice, I mean. Rolling the eight dice of the Fluoride Octet sets forth "a wide range of highly unpredictable attacks", with the highest rolls being "devastating to even the most powerful opponents". Since Vriska has incredibly awful luck, though, she'd consider only botching seven rolls a success at this point. Presumably she could find a way to weaponize normal dice with her Specibus, but that would probably just mean throwing them at her attackers.

Vriska also has freaky mind control powers that only work on the especially impressionable. She can convince people to do things that they wouldn't normally do, from signing back on their PesterChum client to jumping off a cliff and falling to their death. She's currently adhering to a truce, agreeing to stop using her mind powers. But if she's seriously threatened, she'll break that truce in an instant to save her life. Her robot arm also provides her with a little bit of extra strength, but she'd rather use her mind powers or magic dice instead of her bare hands.

Personality: Vriska's moral compass may as well be a pendulum. She's great at doubletalk when it serves her purposes, but is just a little bit more gullible than she'd prefer to let on. She's the great manipulator, sure; she loves bugging and fussing and meddling in people's lives for her own benefit. But she can be manipulated just as easily as long as people know what buttons to push. Flying in the face of the well-tempered mindmistress facade she puts on, she's pretty insecure about basically everything. She's prone to kind of extreme bouts of self-deprecation, insulting herself and doubting her own ability to fight the inevitable. It's really frustrating sometimes!

Despite all that, Vriska still loves being excellent in every aspect of her life. She participates in various extreme role playing games with especially high stakes at hand and especially epic loot to be gained. She also gains a lot of experience points, but for all we know those are completely useless outside of games. Role playing isn't her only hobby, of course; she's completely in love with various high-stakes games. Cards, billiards, even tiddly-winks if there's enough to lose.

When she's not being excellent, she's studying various apocalypses. She's a bit of an apocalypse buff, which is a real thing on her home planet. She's fascinated with the ends of the worlds, and who wouldn't be? In her down time, she constructs doomsday devices, but she hasn't had a whole lot of time for that lately. Not to mention how difficult it would be to find some of the materials in this day and age.

She's done terrible things to her friends and other trolls in the past, and it does seem like she feels genuine regret for them. (More on that in the next section, because it's way too complicated to get into now.) She wants to make things better between her and her friends, and if that means being less of a huge bitch, then she's all for it. She's still duplicitous and will lie or trick to get what she wants, but she'll always be a little nicer to her pre-existing friends than the next person she runs into on the metaphorical street.

History: Vriska was created from the ectoplasmic goo of paradox clones of two (or possibly more) guardians summoned from the far reaches of time and space by a complicated system of computers into a lab on an asteroid, then shot down to her home planet in a meteor summoned by an evil empire and redirected by the sentient portal defense system of a planet composed of unlimited creative potential and some chessboard squares. That's really all there is to say on the matter.

The weird part is that I'm not making any of that up. But let's go back a little. Vriska is a troll, an alien from the planet Alternia. Alternia itself doesn't exist anymore; it was destroyed by meteors in an event called The Reckoning. The Reckoning is a calculated attack from the carapaced monsters of Derse, a dark planet existing in its own timeless expanse (known as The Incipisphere), meant to destroy Skaia, a planet of unlimited creative potential in the middle of that timeless expanse.

Hold on, this is getting a little complicated. Let's start again. Vriska is a troll, a member of an alien civilization that exists solely to prepare for the coming of a very high-stakes role playing game called SGRUB. Vriska and her eleven troll friends got involved in a two-team session of SGRUB somewhere around their 13th human year of life. With meteors bearing down on all their houses, Vriska and the other trolls got teleported into a place called The Medium, a special section of The Incipisphere where they got their own individual planets. They went through a series of gates and jumped from planet to planet, helping each other out to get to the end of the chain and reach Skaia in the middle.

Skaia had turned into a magnificent battlefield between the black agents of Derse and the white agents of Prospit, a golden planet closely orbiting Skaia and meant to serve as its protector. On the battlefield, the trolls fought the Black King, who had taken the attributes of the trolls' sprites thanks to prototyping before they all entered the Medium.

Wait, I haven't explained sprites or prototyping yet. Crap. Okay, well. When Vriska was a little younger, she had a Lusus, which is like a giant troll babysitter. Her Lusus was an enormous spider who craved the flesh of young trolls. (This actually justifies all the terrible things Vriska's done; she had to murder a bunch of trolls because otherwise her Lusus would have eaten her! And that's no good.) Her Lusus died from collateral damage from a meteor strike, though, and Vriska suddenly needed to get out of there. SGRUB provided a construct called a Kernelsprite, which merges with dead or imminently doomed things to provide the player with a guide through the world of SGRUB. This merging is called prototyping, and it happens to give the leaders of Prospit and Derse, as well as the enemies a player faces during their SGRUB session, special attributes related to the object that was prototyped. Vriska went through with the prototyping and then warped into The Medium.

Okay, let's see what we've got. Vriska joined a game that led to the destruction of her home planet through some very complicated time loops and a jungle of unique terminology. During the course of the game, she was born in a laboratory on an asteroid in a belt called The Veil, which separates Derse from The Medium. Larval Vriska was sent back in time 13 Earth years on a meteor summoned by The Reckoning, which crashed into Alternia, where she attached to a stalactite and pupated, then went through a ridiculous series of trials and eventually emerged on the surface of Alternia and built her home. At least, we're pretty sure that's what happened. Trolls sure are weird!

And now we accelerate to the present. Her session of SGRUB is over and she (along with her eleven friends) are hiding out on an asteroid in The Veil. There's four 13-year-old humans on Earth who are playing their own game (they call it SBURB). And they've managed to break it so spectacularly that the trolls, who don't even exist in the same universe as the kids anymore, are at risk of dying horribly. As if Vriska didn't have enough to deal with, sharing a lab with the guy she crippled and the girl she killed and the guy she manipulated into killing the girl for all eternity! Such a hassle.

There's some other stuff with a mysterious guy named Doc Scratch who is Alternia's First Guardian, meant to usher in a demon with the capability to end every universe or something, but that's getting unnecessarily complicated! Let's just say that Vriska has terrible luck brought about by this weird addiction to smashing Magic 8-Balls and leave it at that.

Roleplay Sample - Log:

Vriska had learned her lesson a while ago about messing with people's minds. It was her stupid mind powers that got everyone to hate her in the first place. And that stupid white-texted idiot knew it. He'd manipulated her into using her powers to try to make things right. He manipulated her even when she thought she was manipulating him! Honestly she was a little impressed by it, but only because she'd always thought she was the best manipulator. It was professional respect or something.

Why was she always thinking about stuff like that, anyway? That was ages ago. All of her time these days was devoted to making up for it. To being a better person, or at least less of a bitch. But here she was, sitting upright in whatever it was she called her bed. Not that she did a lot of sleeping anymore. It left her a lot of time to think, and sometimes it wasn't for the best. Maybe everyone else was right. Maybe she was irredeemable. But no, that couldn't have been it! Because she was making great strides. gA had told her personally, and if she couldn't trust gA to waste sincere camaraderie on her, who could she trust?

So that was that, then. All Vriska could do was keep up what she was doing. Be friends with Tavros, and try to forget that she threw him off a cliff because of... things. The whole situation was so long ago and so complicated that she could barely keep it straight. Which meant she was doing things right, right? Anyway, where was she. Tavros, right. All the people she'd hurt. Aradia didn't care anymore. Aradia was okay with it. It was a little creepy how okay she was with things. And Sollux...

Sollux was a lost cause. Sure, Vriska could have gotten into his head and made him like her all over again, but that would be breaking the truce. And she'd learned her lesson, anyway. It always came back to that. Every time she thought about using her powers again, she just remembered how miserable it made everyone. How miserable it made her.

But it would be fucking worth it if it would make Karkat stop snoring!
